A Note from Ms. Sickler

Parent-Teacher Conferences 2/27 and 2/28 – Cornerstone Academy

A positive parent-teacher partnership can be a powerful way to support a child’s growth throughout the school year. At conferences, you can expect that your child’s teacher will share strengths within different subjects as well as areas that students are working to develop.  You can also expect teachers to share how things are going socially, as well as how students are developing independence and work habits in the classroom.  Often teachers will share student work so you can see examples of your child’s progress.  In the past, teachers may have shared a child’s specific reading level, but as a district we’re moving away from that practice to focus more on the specific reading behaviors your child is working on in order to become a strong, independent reader.

Check out this PBS KIDS webinar featuring parents and educators and find out how they support the children in their lives. Family experts share ideas on how to come together to build a parent-teacher relationship, communicate to help your child learn and grow, and celebrate when your child thrives.

Remember, Monday and Tuesday are half-days (12:10 dismissal, no lunch is served) and NO SCHOOL Wednesday – Friday.  Enjoy the Thanksgiving Break!

District Notes

  • As part of the required regular program evaluation cycle, the SAS Sex Education Advisory Board surveys families to gather their input and feedback regarding the sex education programming offered in Saline Area Schools.  Similarly to previous district surveys, the Saline Area Schools will work with their data collection partner, K12 Insight, to gather this information.   The parent/family survey will be sent with a direct link via email on November 15th to the primary contact listed in our Powerschool database. This survey will close on December 9th. If you do not receive a survey, you can contact the research team at east@k12insight.com who help administer our surveys.  In addition to gathering this information from our families, we will also be issuing a survey to High School students to gather their perspectives from their experience with the SAS sex education programming.  If you would like to view the High School student survey, please follow THIS LINK. To opt out your High School student from taking the survey complete THIS FORM.  If you would like more information on the sex education programming offered in Saline Area Schools, please visit the curriculum section of the district website HERE.  Thank you in advance for your input in helping us to evaluate our educational programming.
  • FYI: Please refer to the reference sheet from the Washtenaw County Health Department for more information about lice.
