Week of October 31st – November 4th

A Note from Ms. Sickler

  • On Monday, grade levels are celebrating fall parties at different times based on their daily schedule.  At Harvest, classrooms and grade levels strive to create fall parties that are inclusive and joyful for all students that we serve.  If your child chooses to bring/wear a costume to school on Monday, wearing a costume that appropriates a marginalized community causes harm and may marginalize members of that community; this is the opposite of creating a safe and inclusive environment.
    Fall Party Times
    • Young 5s: 9:15-10:15am
    • Kindergarten: 9:00-10:am
    • First Grade: 9:15-10:15am
    • Second Grade: 10:45-11:45am
    • Third Grade: 2:15-3:15pm

  • On Tuesday, our building will be watching Monsters, Inc. and enjoying popcorn as our final Harvest Fun Run reward!  If your family does not want your child to watch this movie, please email harvestoffice@salineschools.org so we can make alternate plans for your child when the movie is being shown in their classroom.

Did You Know?

Did you know that Saline has a program called Hornets Helping Hornets?  We know every once in a while, a Saline Area Schools family needs just a little bit of extra help.  When that happens, we want to make it easy for other families to fulfill that need without knowing who the need is for.  These needs will include such things as coats, boots, snacks, gas cards, lunch money, etc.  If you are interested in getting updates when needs are posted, sign up on the sign-up genius HERE.

Week of October 24th – October 28th

A Note from Ms. Sickler

  • This Friday, feel free to support UofM or MSU prior to Saturday’s football game.  While it is fun and exciting to live in a state with many wonderful schools and families who connect to various schools and teams, this can also be an opportunity to teach into our Saline Bridge to Civility.  When we teach our Harvest Hornets to Find Common Ground, we can teach our students to recognize that similarities exist among all people, and we can teach our students to respect differences.  We can also teach students to work to find commonalities.  Friday is a perfect day to find common ground.  Whether you show up in Maize & Blue or Green & White, we all will show up as Harvest Hornets!

  • Original Works is back!  Check your child’s folder for their artwork and personalized form indicating how to order.  Questions?  Email harvestoffice@salineschools.org

Week of October 17th – October 21st

A Note from Ms. Sickler

  • Harvest has been selected to participate in the U.S. Department of Education’s Early Childhood Longitudinal Study (ECLS), a nationwide study of elementary-aged children (Y5 – 2) and their schools, teachers, and parents/guardians.  The study will take place at Harvest from October 24th – October 28th. It is expected that most children will take about 45 minutes to complete the activities, which consist of engaging age- and grade-appropriate reading and math items. If you consent, your child may be selected to complete the study activities with an ECLS team member who has undergone a Federal background investigation.   If you have any questions, please refer to materials (including a paper copy of the permission slip that can be returned to school) that will be sent home in your child’s take-home folder tomorrow (Monday, October 17th), and do not hesitate to email the ECLS team at ECLS@westat.com or call 1-855-898-2018.  ELECTRONIC CONSENT FORM

MS Picture Retake Day: Monday, 11/29 - Weston Middle School

  • This THURSDAY is Picture retake day.
    • If a student was absent they will automatically have their photo taken and they will be added to the class composite and yearbook.  You will have the option to order photos.
    • If a student needs to do a retake they need to have their original photo envelope/product with them on Thursday so that the company can re-order what the original was.  Please make sure your student’s teacher knows that your child is planning on doing retakes by sending an email and having the photo envelope/product in your child’s take-home folder
      • No student needs to “sign up” for a time.  We have volunteers who will visit every class to help with retakes.
  • THIS THURSDAY – Early Release #2 (1:10pm dismissal; lunch is served)
  • THIS FRIDAY – No School (Fall Break)

Did You Know?

Did you know that one way to help your child succeed in school is to build the habit of good attendance early?  We have been in school 33 days thus far, about 1/2 through our first trimester.  We will be reaching out and checking in with families this week if we are seeing warning signs of absences or tardies because we want all students to be successful at Harvest.

Visit attendanceworks.org for free downloadable resources and tools!

Week of October 10th – October 14th

A Note from Ms. Sickler

Last Friday we were able to stretch our legs, run some laps, and have some fun outside all while celebrating raising $27,370.00 for Harvest! Thank you to all the volunteers who braved the Michigan “fall day” to help us make it a super fun event for all our students.

On Tuesday, October 11th Kindergarten, first-grade, and 2nd-grade students will have their Reading and Math Acadience scores emailed home via SchoolMessenger.  3rd-grade students will have their Reading and Math Acadience scores printed and sent home in their take-home folder due to a difference between the way the reports are generated (making it difficult to send the third-grade reports electronically). A detailed explanation of how to interpret results can be found here.
