Week of September 26th – September 30th

A Note from Ms. Sickler

This week I’ll be out of the district from Tuesday – Thursday attending a conference with other Saline Area School staff members, sharing the great things we are doing here in Saline, and learning new ideas to bring back to our district.  Kevin Musson, our interim Special Education Director (who previously was Pleasant Ridge’s principal prior to retirement) will be stepping in as acting principal.  Feel free to reach out to me via email (sicklere@salineschools.org) while I am away.

Our Harvest Fun Run is on Friday, October 7th!  We will have students be participating outside on our playground track during the following times:

  • 9:10-9:40 AM Young 5 & Kindergarten
  • 9:55-10:25 AM 3rd Grade
  • 10:30-11:00 AM 1st Grade
  • 11:05-11:35 AM 2nd Grade

If you are interested in joining us, please sign up HERE.

Remember, this is our ONE fundraiser for the year and provides the PTA with the funds to pay for many awesome things! Every dollar donated is VERY appreciated!  On Friday, October 7th we will stretch our legs, run some laps, and have some fun outside all while raising money for our school!

REGISTER YOUR CHILD HERE!

We are at 70% of our goal, and have received donations from 28 out of 50 states, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Germany!  We have already passed two of our goals.  We are still working towards the goal of having Kona Ice at our Fun Run on October 7th.

Did You Know?

School Bus Clipart Images – Browse 3,225 Stock Photos ...

Did you know due to staff shortages, the SAS Transportation Department has created routes to be as efficient as possible, causing many of them to be very full?  As a result, they cannot accommodate students riding to/from school with friends.  Students are assigned to a stop at/near their home registered address, and this will be the only location transportation will be provided for.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

If a student does go on a bus with a friend and it is noticed while at the school building, they will be sent to the office to call home.  If a student is on a bus and not noticed until the route is in progress, the transportation office staff will make a call to parents to make arrangements for picking up the student at the transportation office or a school building.

On Friday we had our community meeting where our first-grade teachers taught us about our second Harvest 4 rule, we are responsible 4 What I Do.

During the community meeting, the first-grade teachers shared a few pages from the book What If Everyone Did That to help us think about the choices that we make.

Week of September 12th – September 16th

A Note from Ms. Sickler

On Friday, we had our first 2022-2023 Harvest community meeting.  At a community meeting, our entire building convenes to learn together.  Mrs. Dana, our music teacher, led us in a community cheer, and then our third grade teachers led us in some learning about one of our Harvest 4s statements: We are responsible for what we say.  The third grade teachers shared parts of the book Words and Your Heart (shared below in Ms. Sickler Reads!) to help us remember that words have power.

On Friday, I also shared information about our Harvest Fun Run on October 7th.  You should have also received information in your student’s folder on Friday.  Remember, this is our building’s one and only fundraiser this year!

Week of September 5th – September 9th

A Note from Ms. Sickler

  • Students will be called to get their photos taken with their teacher and class starting the morning of Thursday, September 8th.  We schedule classes prior to specials and lunch for the most ideal photo.
  • Order photos HERE (use keyword: AA1205Fall22)
  • Thank you to the volunteers who signed up to make this morning run smoothly!
  • School picture photographers will be back for retakes (October 20th) for students who are not in school on Thursday or would like to retake their photos.  More information will be shared closer to the retake day.

Glow & Grow

When I was a teacher, I always shared “glows and grows” with family members during student conferences.  These last two weeks I have shared detailed information to make sure Arrival/Dismissal goes smoothly for all of us.  If we work together, we can make sure everyone is safe.  I wanted to give some “glows” and “grows” moving forward.

GLOWS:

  • On arrival, students who use the drop-off loop are quickly getting out of the car.  Grown-ups are staying in the car.
  • On dismissal, cars that arrive early pull all the way up to allow the entire loop to be utilized.

GROWS:

  • On arrival, please pull up to the green “pull up to here” sign.  Even if there are only a few cars in the loop when you arrive, the loop can get congested quickly.
  • On dismissal, please do not leave your car unattended in the pick-up loop.  If you need to get out of your car for any reason, please leave the loop and park.  The loop should only be used for 2nd and 3rd-grade families.  Y5, K, and 1st-grade families are asked to pick up their students from their teachers.

I realize that parking is at a premium here at Harvest.  Feel free to use the Saline High School parking lot and walk over.  There is a crossing walk and sidewalk to safely cross and get over to our building.
