We are EXTENDING the Harvest Science Fair Sign Up through MONDAY, January 27!
The Harvest Science Fair is an opportunity for children to learn by doing. This is not a competition, just a place for the students to teach each other about an area of science that interests them. It doesn’t have to be perfect, expensive, or time consuming, just fun.
Here are some example topics and ideas that might spark inspiration:
Experiments/ Testing:
What chewing gum has the longest lasting flavor?
Which type of chocolate melts the fastest, milk, dark, or white?
Comparing paper airplane designs
Testing the distance of a soccer ball based on inflation
 
Building models to explain a concept:
Mini volcanoes (using baking soda and vinegar)
Building a solar system
Constellations
Demonstrations:
Potato battery clocks
Slime making
Crystal growing
Self-inflating balloons
Sugar content in drinks
The topic possibilities are limitless. Your student will have an opportunity to demonstrate or explain their project throughout the evening. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity and join us on Tuesday, February 4th from 6 to 7:30 pm at the Harvest Elementary Science Fair.

Did You Know?

Did you know that about five years ago, Harvest jumped into research and developed a new homework policy that we view is of greater benefit to our students and families. This is not a no homework policy, rather it is a shift in our belief, based upon research, that homework should be something a student does that is of high interest and extends a child’s learning and wonder.  

Over the years we have seen an increase in homework, with that the pressure and stress amongst students and parents is also increasing. As we continue to research this topic, there is no evidence that supports improved student performance associated with homework especially before middle school. Most homework robs our children and our families of our most precious resource: time. Time to think, play, and connect with one another and friends. There is also a decrease in time to read, rest, discover, run, fall, fail and learn from it all.  Most importantly, time to love. Read more HERE.
