Week of September 30th – October 4th

A Note from Ms. Sickler

As we are a month into the school year, please review our Harvest rules for drop-off/pick-up.  To keep all of the children safe at Harvest Elementary School we ask that you follow these rules when dropping off or picking up your child from school.

Morning Drop-Off

  • Do not park anywhere in the drop-off loop or anywhere in the drive leading into the loop.  If you need to enter the building, please park in the lot adjacent to the drop-off loop and come into the building.
  • The morning drop-off is a seven-second drop-off.  Do not wait to watch your child enter the building.  Do not exit your vehicle in the drop-off loop.
  • Traffic will begin to back up into the parking areas.  As always, you may choose to park in either lot and walk your child to the front door.  If you park in the west lot, please do not walk between school buses.  This is not safe, as our drivers cannot see you passing there.
  • Children MUST exit the car on the passenger side of the car while in the drop-off loop.  If your child needs to exit the car on the driver’s side, please park your car in a designated parking place.  Walk your child to the sidewalk.  Children may then proceed to the entrance on their own.

Afternoon Pick-Up

  • Do not leave your car unattended at any time in the pick-up loop or the drive into and out of the school.
  • You may be ticketed if your vehicle is found unattended.
  • Students may not walk into the pick-up loop to enter a vehicle.  They may only enter the vehicle at the curb and enter on the passenger side of the car.
  • When parking in either parking lot, please walk to the sidewalk and meet your child there.  Students may not walk into a parking lot unattended at any time.

Wow! Harvest students and families, thank you for a very successful Fun Run! We raised over $32,000!! We will be able to do so many amazing things for our school, our students and our staff with the funds that were raised. The kids had a blast at the actual Fun Run! Thank you to all the volunteers and cheerleaders! Since we smashed our $25,000 goal, an ice cream truck visited us last Thursday for some tasty treats! Plus every class will get a movie and popcorn day soon! An email will be sent soon to students that earned the pancake breakfast, nerf games, and/or Top 10 Picnic with the Principal. Thank you so much for your generous support!

Even with the Fun Run over, check out other ways to support Harvest here.

Week of September 23rd – September 27th

A Note from Ms. Sickler

What fun we had last week with Spirit Week and concluding with our Harvest Fun Run.  This week students will get a visit from an ice-cream truck to celebrate our school meeting its goal!

This week all our Kindergarten – Third Grade students will be completing the NWEA test for both reading and math.  A few notes about the test:

  • The test will be given in the classroom on an iPad or Chromebook
  • The test is untimed.  Students are given as much time as they need to complete all of the questions.
  • The NWEA assessment test is just one of the many pieces of data and methods that our teachers use to measure academic progress.

To learn more about NWEA and access parent and student resources, please visit the following site www.nwea.org. Once there, select the “Assessment” tab.  Then select “Resources for Parents”. At the bottom of that page, you can download a “parent toolkit” for the NWEA.

Harvest Helping Hands is a community project developed by the PTA to inspire the spirit of generosity in our school. Each month we will highlight a local charity. We ask our students and families to consider learning about and giving to these causes. Our hope is to show our students that even little acts can make a big difference.  The month of September will be:

Change for ChadTough

Each class will be collecting loose change every morning the week of September 23rd – 27th.

Week of September 16th – September 20th

A Note from Ms. Sickler

We’ve got spirit, yes we do, we’ve got spirit, how ’bout you? Next week we will be celebrating Harvest Spirit Week AND our Harvest Fun Run.

Harvest Fun Run Update: So far we have raised $13,500! We are halfway to our goal! 30% of Harvest students have at least one donation. All students will participate in the Fun Run and benefit from the money raised, so our hope is for every student to have at least one donation of support from their family and friends.  All donations are appreciated no matter the amount! If we all work together, we can crush our goals and do amazing things at Harvest!

Many students celebrated “International Dot Day” last week.  At Harvest, we hope all students are encouraged to harness their own creativity and embrace their own confidence as they make their mark on the world.  Enjoy Peter Reynolds’ story, The Dot.

Week of September 9th – September 13th

A Note from Ms. Sickler

With two weeks under our belt, we are excited and ready to begin week 3!  I have observed classrooms getting into solid routines to build a foundation for an amazing year!  In order to best inform our instruction, our teachers are beginning to assess their students.  Your child may share that they had a chance to read one-on-one with their teacher and/or another staff member this week.  We use these data points to best meet the needs of our students.

Finally, a friendly reminder to turn in the Technology Agreement form that came home last week with both you and your child’s signature.

Scroll down to check out the PTA Points for more information about our Harvest Fun Run on September 20th!

Did You Know?

Did you know that Harvest holds Community Meetings throughout the school year?  These meetings are when our entire building comes together to celebrate each other and learn together.  On Friday’s Community Meeting we learned about the idea of thoughts and feelings.  This concept comes from a building shared curriculum, Social Thinking, that our staff is learning and implementing at Harvest.  More information about Social Thinking and the idea of thoughts and feelings is linked here.
